I think we may have a serial newspaper-vending-machine killer at work, or perhaps a copy cat, moving freely about the country:

Sigh. Now, the world may never know.
Or they did, but don't care.

Again, I'm not an advocate of public (or private) vandalism-- but whoever undertook this project did it well.
yes. incidentally, one of the two stands contained "apartment finders" guides. perhaps someone couldn't "find an apartment" and took it personally.
